My planting project!
Kia ora bloggers! during lockdown I did a planting project. What made me do planting? well, my mum has lots of seeds she saves from fruits and vegetables that we like and then we plant them. In this blog post I am going to show you how I planted them!
First of all my mum. got some chilli, kaffir lime, and papaya seeds that she saved from those fruits. My mum went out to the front yard to get a new bag of soil to plant out seeds in. When we got inside she opened the bag of soil. My mum saves a lot of jelly cups and old egg cartons so that we can use then for when she needs to plant seeds in. I had 2 large egg cartons and 7 jelly cups. We had to heat up a nail and make some holes so that the water could drain at the bottom of the jelly cup.
I put on my gardening gloves and used a jelly cup to put soil into another jelly cup one at a time. After the jelly cups I got to add some soil to the egg cartons and then spread it out. We did not fill the cups and cartons way to the top because we needed to put some soil on top after the seeds were planted. Soon, then we started sprinkling some seeds on the egg cartons and put some more seeds in the jelly cup.
We put 2 seeds in some jelly cups and 3 in the other jelly cups then we put the soil over it. We also put soil over the egg cartons and gently tapped it on top to make sure it was all set and ready to be watered. Our small laundry is a hot place so we put the egg cartons and jelly cups in there.
I had to go down the the garage to get my watering can, about 3 minutes later I finally found it because it was hard to look for. Then my mum filled it up with water and then I got to water the soil. I will keep you updated on when the seeds start to sprout! See you next time bloggers!

Fantastic blog, Zara. Ka pai. Thanks for sharing such a fun activity. You wrote clear sentences and paragraphs that were easy to follow. I liked how you reused the egg cartons and jelly pots. That was a great tip about heating the nail to make a hole. How did you do that? I’m looking forward to seeing your seeds germinate. Our school garden will need these great ideas after lockdown. Keep up your great work. Enjoy your weekend too.
ReplyDeleteAwesome work Zara. You have written a very descriptive blog about what you did and how you did it. Fantastic that mum recycles the jelly cups & egg cartoons. I cant wait to see the germinate. Do you know how long it takes for the different types of seeds you have planted? Do you have a little job now of watering the seedlings? Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteHi Zara, I love your Blog Post about your planting project. It sounds very fun. It made me think about my own garden at home, its very small though. I also like how you are recycling things at home. Did your Mum have any other seeds to plant? Overall your Blog Post was very interesting and full of detail.
